K. Veeramani, President of Dravidar Kazhagam, appealed to the Left paraties to join the Union Cabinet.

As the Congress was going to form Government on the basis of a common minimum programme, the Left parties could play a crucial role by joining the Cabinet, instead of extending support from outside, he told press persons at Thanjavur on May 17, 2004.

The strength of the Left parties in Parliament increased and they played an important role in the formation of the Congress-led alliance Government at the Centre.

Moreover, people expected a strong and secular government at the Centre and if their feelings were to be respected, the parties should join the Government instead of supporting from outside.
